What a way for Portugal to kick off the new year! Winning yet another accolade on the world stage. This time it's all about remote working.
If you needed another reason to choose Portugal as your forever home, holiday getaway or investment option then here it is! The travel research website Momondo has ranked Portugal as the best place in the world to travel and work remotely in 2022.
With advancements in technology, a global pandemic and the growth of online presence, living and working in the sun is now no longer the privilege of the few, everyone who works remotely can enjoy the 300 days of sunshine Portugal offers while still getting their work done and monthly wage coming in. Why not combine working with learning to surf, or grab your clubs and play a round of golf before that zoom meeting? Be happy, healthy, and prosperous in the Algarve this year.
Momondo considered several criteria before deciding Portugal was the best in the world. They looked into local prices, social life, health and safety, remote working conditions, travel cost and accessibility, and the weather.
“Portugal has become known as the best country in the world for remote work, with high classifications in all categories including weather, social life, low crime rate and affordable cost of living. Portugal also has a visa for digital nomads, and many residents have a high level of English, which is a strong point for ex-pats.”
If that is not enough, let us tempt you that little bit more. Portugal was also voted the best country in Europe for ex-pats to live and work by InterNations in 2021. The survey ranked 59 different countries around the world on four factors: quality of life, ease of settling in, personal finance and working abroad.
Out of the 59 countries, Portugal came fifth overall for ex-pats and was the only European country in the top 10! It is no surprise to us that Portugal came top of all European countries and sixth overall for the friendliness of the locals, second overall for ex-pats feeling at home and was in the top 10 for ease of settling in. Since moving to Portugal I can honestly say I have never felt more welcomed or made to feel so at home, when I go back to visit family and friends in the UK I certainly feel that the return trip is when I come home.
Portugal came third out of all 59 countries for overall quality of life. The climate and leisure options available scored really highly and Portugal also ranked third for personal happiness with the laid-back atmosphere being a major plus point of the country. Portugal was also in the top 10 for safety and security,
